First Family

 

Our history began at Mt Zion Baptist Church.  Mt Zion was the third Baptist Church founded in Berkeley County on June 23, 1835.  Before the building was erected they met in homes around the countryside.  Finally, they built the stone building we still use today for special services, such as, our annual Mt Zion Christmas Services, Easter Sunrise Service and Homecoming.  It was a church of the new school, in other words, it supported Missions, Sunday School and a paid Pastor.  Mt Zion was used for a hospital during the Civil War and in 1867 it was used as a school.  In 1858 ten members of Mt Zion help start a new church in town and First Baptist Church began.  Above is a picture of the King Street facility that we currently use today.  Below is a picture of Mt Zion today...

 

 

 

In January 2004 we purchased 25 acres on Ridge Road and praise the Lord! Phase 1 is completed! Some people have asked... "What will we do with our downtown King Street Campus once the Ridge Road Campus is complete?"  We are not selling the King Street Campus and relocating.  We will continue to hold our Traditional Services at the King Street Campus and have our Contemporary Services at the Ridge Road Campus.  The King Street Campus will continue to be what it has always been since 1858, a lighthouse on the hill and a place where sinners are welcome to experience the love and grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, as well as the love and grace and mercy of brothers and sisters in Christ!  We will just have three campuses now!  Mt Zion Campus, King Street Campus and Ridge Road Campus, but all of them will be used for the glory of God!  Below is the overall site plan for the Ridge Road Campus and Phase pictures...
